Is it worth the upgrade?

In what way is your current CPU not doing what you need it to do?
Don't upgrade 'just because'.

As a gamer it isn't a move I would make.

When/if I invest another $200+ on a CPU it certainly won't be another 1150 CPU. I own the 4690 with a 970 and 8GB RAM. If I were to look to an i7 it would be the 7700 from Intel.

Let's assume I'm not a gamer. I am now an audio engineer or a Youtuber who edits lots of videos, a graphic designer or or or.... If that were the case the i7's value would be increased and I would consider it. The return with gaming improvement wouldn't be justified. Do I have an SSD? That helps with those aforementioned tasks.


We don't know what you use your PC for. We also don't know the supporting cast.

In short? Maybe.

Going by just the tags, the upgrade isn't worth it. For just a couple few games? No.

Ahh see i have 16GB RAM, 3.30GHz CPU 1TB SDD x2 850 pro's and a nvidia GTX 970 currently, I'm wanting to upgrade to the nvidia GTX 1080, would that be better even though i get 100% CPU usage on Battlefield 1 and some FPS drops in wow and some other games like DayZ and stuff?

The ghz of a cpu tells nothing.
Some processors can do much more work per ghz.
Then, how many threads can it run?

What , exactly is the make/model of the cpu you are using?

I suspect you are very cpu limited and a graphics upgrade will not be as effective as you hope.

I would purchase the 1080 for some extra longevity. Not sure if the Ti is worth the extra 200 clams. It would dominate the playing field and give you a significant boost in effective "horsepower". Not until you upgrade the board to something that could support the 7700K or maybe the 1800x that would balance the playing field. Bottom line? I'm going to upgrade my GFX card before the 4690K.
