My rig is GTX 1080, i7 3770k @4.2, 16 GB RAM. I currently own a 1080p@75 LG24MP59G monitor and I use my PC for gaming purposes only, competitive shooters and modern games @60-90 fps. I am quite confused about all this monitor thing, so please help me out.

  1. Given my rig is it worth the effort/money to switch to 1440p and why?
  2. If so, do I need 144 Hz or 75 should suffice?
  3. My CPU is rather old, would switching to 1440p help him to struggle less in games?
  4. If you think it's a good idea to switch, what monitor would you recommend under 400$?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t switch to 1440p unless you had a 1080ti minimum. Get a 1080p 144hz monitor.

Picking the right Monitor is very difficult. I prefer IPS's rich colors over VA's high contrast. TN panels are good for 244hz and 1ms response time, but IPS is catching up. If you are gaming in a Very bright room try a Samsung VA panel. In a darker room an IPS. Really do your research on 1080p 144hz monitors. There are a ton of options.

This is really all you need. There’s no reason to spend a ton of money on a monitor. This is Gsync compatible and well reviewed. Use the resto of the money towards saving up for a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM. Unless you ONLY play high FPS comp games like CSGO LoL or Overwatch then 240hz is a waste and in AAA titles you’ll never see that frame rate.

If it’s the one I am thinking about it heavily sacrifices colour accuracy and contrast ratio over typical IPS.
AW2521HF this is the model#. There will always be sacrifices. 240hz is probably too high anyway. 1080p 144hz is good for most. I just highly recommend staying away from TN panels. Unless you have the reaction speed of a flying squirrel.
