Is it worth upgrading an HP desktop PC?

I have an HP MEDIA CENTER PC, model M764ON. The motherboard is an Asus A8M2N-LA. The pc has a 300 watt power supply with 2 gig of ram. Is this computer even worth upgrading? It was rarely used. Has windows explorer operating system. Its use was primarily e-mail, some web browsing, word processing and home photos.

If you don't do intensive tasks on the PC, no need. Many old prebuilt have either its unique parts you can not easily replace or confined spaces for modern components.

Everything in that computer is really old and outdated. Not worth upgrading those old parts, you must get a new Build. What are you planning on doing that requires a better PC?

I would upgrade. There are many websites that will show you a decent sub $500 build.

Upgrading that system is like throwing good money after bad. If you just want something for email, office, and web browsing, then go for a sub $500 laptop.

Even if you wanted to upgrade it, you'd find it an uphill struggle an any factory-built PC because you'd encounter some non-standard, proprietary fittings and connectors (especially on an HP model).

That would make sourcing compatible components a bit of a challenge.

Either continue to use it as it is or start over with a new build if it no longer meets your requirements. If it does all you need it to do, save your money.
