I was just wondering whether it would be worth upgrading my EVGA gtx 780 sc acx for a gtx 1070 probably another EVGA aswell) i see the retail price is not super expensive and specs looks alot better than what i have, such as 8gb vs 3gb, clock speed etc. The price is going for $619 in Canada and of course taxes which makes up to $700 for the card. The purpose of this is so that i can increase graphics settings and play a few games i havent played yet such as batman arkham knight, and rise of tomb raider at a more reasonable frame rate, and its summer so i have free time id like to spend.
You see i put a little bit of thought into it, and was thinking ive bought my 780 for close to the price and i dont need to be spending $1000 dollars on a card that is not future proof besides none are. So if i were to buy a card every 3-2 years at a price around that (depending on the specs) it wouldnt hurt as much as buying a card for $1000, where if i sell the old card i want to replaced i would lose around $4-500 dollars. Since the card becomes outdated no ones willing to pay a larger sum for the card where they could get a better one from the store for the same price. Poeple asking to buy my gtx 780 for $200 as of now and even lower, so either i sell at around that price or not sell at all and keep as a tropie( which is useless).
My pc specs:
- Asus P8Z77-V LK Intel motherboard
- Intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz
- Corsair H55 quite series cpu water cooler
- Kingston hyperx blu 1600mhz of 16gb
- EVGA nvidia geforce 780 acx sc 3gb
- Intel ssd 330 120gb (primary disk running operating system)
- Samsung ssd 850 pro 128gb ( game installations)
- WD digital hdd 7200rpm 64mb cache black edition 1tb (storage and temporary game installations)
- Corsair TX850M powersupply (850watts)
- asus wifi adapter card 10dbi

Solution
It will be a big performance improvement, but the question is, do you need it?

Personally, my 780 is still performing fine at 1440p for me, but the most demanding games I am playing are Forza 6 Apex and Overwatch.
lol, i actually dont mind buying a card ever generation which is every two years, but if you say it is up to me, then it may be a hard decision whether i dont mind spending 700 bucks, but what would any say about the performance difference i actually didnt see much of that any comparison of benchmark between the two cards?

Double performance? not bad? Assuming good games are coming out this year. Going to sell my 780 for around 2 bills so i dont have to end up selling it for dirt cheap, and i would want to replace it, and get more higher frames or stable frames when playing at 60fps. Trying to make most out of this summer. Out of the question, what do anyone think about my other specs needs any upgrading? heard theres no point yet or not worth it? so?

Na i dont do overclocking since i dont have good ventilation due to where i reside and i have done it before to the cpu and at one point it reached 86 degrees and i put it back to stock clock speed, and one other thing im selling the gtx 780 for 180 as that was the highest offer recieved by anyone for a while, asumming it will not be sellable later on.

as long as it plays the stuff u play wait. I also have a gtx780 and I can play all games with the most demanding at 25-40fps... but most of the rest of the games at 60+ fps. I see no point for now.

The only game I ve played and it looks demanding is mass effect andromeda, but this game does not deserve more of my attention and to force me upgrade. Many games coming the next years that will be demanding. An example is star citizen and in 3-4 years until the full game release, you may need an upgrade if you upgrade TODAY.
