Question Is it worth upgrading from i5 6500 to Ryzen 5 2600x

Hello,

My current system is a:

i5 6500 - stock cooler
AS Rock H110M-HDS motherboard (2xRAM slots, 4x SATA, no M.2)
16 gb DDR4 RAM Team Force Vulcan 3000mhz (2x8gb - running at 2133mhz)
EVGA GTX 1070
500W PSU

I am mostly playing games at 1080p on the machine - Battlefield 1, the new Assassin's Creed games and I am planning to get The Division 2 down the road. I am using my big screen TV so I don't have a 144hz monitor. I have micro stutters in Battlefield 1 and fps in the AC games is also on the lower end.

There is currently a nice deal where I could get a Ryzen 5 2600x with AS Rock B450M Pro4 Motherboard (4xRAM, 2x M.2, 4x SATA) plus The Division 2 for free for US$ 225 (CAD$300) less $25 Mail in Rebate.

Is this the upgrade I have been patiently waiting for? I know Zen 2 is coming out later this year and upgrading to Ryzen 3000 will be an option down the road.

I would say that based on the comparison, and for price, that would be a nice upgrade.

Going from 6500 to 2600X is actually considered as a major upgrade. Please keep in mind that Ryzen loves high memory clocks and tight timings. The ideal for you would be to get a ram kit (always kit of 2) with 3200MHz CL 14 or at least CL 16 (the minimum) for more FPS gain. Also, have a look over MSI B450-A PRO, it's way better than the ASRock one.

I would upgrade, if I was you, but don't go with ASROCK B450m Pro4 - it's terrible motherboard ... I had several issues with it:

• issues with overclocking b-die memories
• degradation of options with each bios update
• no sound issues when connecting front mic/headphones
• lack of basic options for overclocking (e.g. memory jump of 0.05v for memory ... 1.3, 1.35, 1.4 max)

I went with ASUS b450m TUF gaming pro (but I'm using with 2200G for GPU). I would go with MSI (as you are not going to use iGPU), for mATX:
MSI B450M MORTAR TITANIUM

I am on a tight budget so I am jumping on this combo deal - can't pick mobo but for my purpose it will be fine.
