Is it worth upgrading from my old Dell 2407WFP-HC monitor?

Hi,
I'm considering an upgrade from my current Dell 2407WFP-HC 27" which I bought about 8 years ago. I work from home and am on PC all day and have 3 monitors. The Dell is my main monitor on which I also play a few games - mostly COD2, and War Thunder.

Problem is that the Dell gets very hot and I think I can get better image with a newer model. I also have problems with seeing targets far away on the Dell (though it could be my old age). I have in on 1920X1200, and a GTX 950 GPU, updated drivers, tweaked and all the highest setting. I get 55-60 FPS in-game. But I have about $400 to spend on a new 27" IF it would help with eye strain, heat, and game imaging.

I understand that the 950 is not good for 1440 resolution, but I wouldn't mind getting a monitor with that for the future.

There are a few good ASUS and BenQ monitors I see but not sure about which one or if LCD vs LED, or if IPS, G-Sync, Free-Sync, etc. make a difference.

Any suggestions would help.
Thanks!

Intel Corei7 3770 @ 3.40Ghz
RAM 12.0 DDR3

Alright, It looks like you've got a bunch of questions. For one, I don't know what you could expect to get G-Sync wise with $400. It's not that it isn't much money (it is) but G-Sync has a hefty premium attached to it, and doesn't give you that much back. Because you have an Nvidia card, Free-Sync won't work as well, it's an AMD technology. As for 1440, I'd really recommend it. I currently am running a Samsung 34 inch 1440p monitor, and I love it. I'd look at some stuff from ACER.
