Is leather safe for a pc?

im building a pc similar to mac pro with a tubular design and i was thinking the sides would be leather tide down tight, would this be a safe design along with wood to hold motherboard and stuff. so it would be mostly wood, then metal and leather.

i was thinking the metal would be on the outside of the wood as corners and rims

I've never seen leather in a PC, so I can't help you on that, that's about all I know.

Folks do make PC's out of wood, so covering the wood with leather should be ok.

The crucial part of making your own case is to allow for plenty of airflow, and provide plenty of ventilation.

I'm gonna say, probably not. Modern hard plastics, aluminum, and steel are basically non-reactive; leather and wood aren't. Leather is tanned...which comes from tannins...mildly acidic substances used to convert the proteins in hides. Some are left over. Wood has its natural oils. And both would probably outgas, especially under the influence of heat, as from a CPU.

Update: I looked at the wood case posted as a DIY. That guy isolated everything by not building ONTO the wood; he's got a metal tray for the mobo. And the tray helps with stiffness, which would be another concern.

You could mount the MB in the metal, attach it to the wood, and cover it with the leather if one was so inclined. Just need to drill lots of holes for heat ventilation.

so i should have a metal tray, lets say a macbook pro. take out of the sides and bottom and replace with wood. the bottom and top would be wood stand and the sides would be wooden dowels formed into a circle, or should i use pbc pipe?the pipe/dowels would be covered with leather. Would that be okay?

Need to have the metal tray attached to the wood. No pvc pipe as it melts at not too high temps. I would have the sides of wood, and cover with leather- not just dowels.

Then again, you can make a pc case out of cardboard...

how would i go about curving it then?
