Question Is Microsoft Recall really a security threat?

How old (Or new) and what model is your PC? Only Copilot+ computers have recall and those are all very new. Like, THIS generation new, and they must have specific CPUs to qualify. If you built your own system or your system is more than a year old then it's MUCH less likely that you have one that "qualifies" in which case this is not a concern for you. Otherwise, from everything I've read, it is not able to be removed, at least, not yet.

In my mind, more time of this being used daily by both regular home users and business users should pass in order to tell how a threat this is.

Another aspect that always have being unanswered are how much more of a toll will this process take on CPU - in terms ow wasted energy/heat - assuming the wear on SSD are negligible.

It does represent another potential attack vector / data gold mine once a system is compromised.

I can imagine side channel attacks used to pull this data as it is stored rather than even going through the effort of decrypting however they ultimately end up storing this. (Early testing revealed that everything was stored in plain text and easily accessible)

I installed Windows 11 pro on one of my computers(Intel 14700K, RTX 4080 super) at the end of 2023. I don't think it is a Copilot+ computer. All my other computers are at least 10 years old.

Then it's almost impossible, or at the least very unlikely, that any of your systems could even USE these apps, much less be required to run them.
I just installed Windows 11 pro on one of my old computer(x99-p4 motherboard with 16G ram, e5 2670 v3, and Radeon HD 5570). Everything seems to be OK and updated. The OS is activated after installation completed(with Windows 10 pro license for the computer I think.)

I will install Windows 11 to another old computer. I just didn't like the news feed. How do I disable it?
