Is microstuttering a huge problem?

Hi,

I've just recently read about the microstuttering phenomenon that affects dual-gpu and SLI/CF cards/setups. From what I've read microstuttering exists since the beginning of dual-gpu/sli/cf cards. But is it still that big of a deal? I'm currently looking for a cheap HD5970 but this phenomenon is holding me back. I don't care whether or not I get 100 fps in a game if it plays like ***.

So, does it still exist?

I've got a 460 sli setup and I don't notice it. Microstuttering is supposed to be more of a problem with low to mid range cards. Maybe someone with a 5970 will chime in.

Good to hear. Some experiences from HD5970 owners would be nice.

your more likely to hear negative stories about microstuttering than positive, because people are more likely to complain than praise something. You should also know that when people say they notice "crossfire related microstuttering" half the time they dont know what their on about and its just stuttering caused by something else. It depends how much your paying for it. if it is going to cost less than a 6970 or gtx570, i'd possibly take it. But if it costs more, i'd rather have a gtx570/6970, they are not that much slower and in some cases will be slightly faster, you will still be able to max out most games at 1080p, and at least you have the option to add another card later on.

Don't let it bother you. It's occasionally noticeable but the benefits of sli and cf far outweigh this minor downside, which is only occasionally apparent

You can find an HD 6970 for 330-350 dollars and a GTX 570 for 350-380 dollars, in America at least.
