So I foolishly i stalled my Z97 momo into my Storm trooper without standoffs which I now know from threads is bad. Anyway the problem is I wont post. Everything starts up for the briefest of moments and then dies. Ive cycled through all connected components disconnecting each one while trying to post but still the same results. All the capacitors look ok and Im not getting and burnt smell either. Any advice would be great peeps!

I assume you are now doing this with all the standoffs? if it does start for a brief moment, do you get an error code at all (or error LED). please give us the model of your motherboard... err... momo 🙂

I love that you call it a momo

Yes that was the reality. I have since rectified that and have scoured the board looking for anything unusual like blown capacitors or melted/fried connections but it looks perfect and no smell. Is it possible maybe that the cpu may be off by a fraction and that is causing the fault?

CPU can never be off by a fraction. that slot is asymetrical (one corner has a notch), so it is either aligned and pops in when you clamp it down, or you destroy the socket trying to clamp it in. the most likely, and unfortunate truth is you blew some circuitry on the momo that isn't visible.

for those brief moments that it turns on, see if there are any LED lights that do light up on the momo, check the manual to figure out what they mean.

Its an Asus Z97 deluxe and yes I am now using 9 standoffs. Using Momo because Motherboard is a pain to type on my phone when the topic is of course motherboards ha ha.

With the back of the motherboard was in contact with the case, I belive it probably built some closed circuit between those tiny little circuits lines and it messed up your motherboard, not necessarily frying it.

Ok so when I say brief moment I mean like 1/4 of a second. Only 00 pops up on the Led but that code isnt used. I have just noticed though that the rear fan and cooler start to spin up before it shuts down but the 2 side fans dont budge. Aside from that Im not learning anything here on my end from the LEDs.

ahh, yeah, 00 basically means it has power. the fact that 2 fans don't move isn't a good sign and indicates something in the motherboard is messed up, probably from the temporary short caused by the solder on the back of the board coming in contact with the bare case.

though it is possible that the board was DOA to begin with... I guess we'll never know since you probably never tried booting up with the board before your first try where you didn't use standoffs

can get it to stay on long enough for any codes to register. I just get a very brief 00 before it shuts off and 00 doesnt mean anything.

@GerReidy, you messed up with your motherboard. It had a closed curcuit when the back of the motherboard went in contact with the case and your powered.
