Hello everyone,

Thank you for everyone's time in viewing this thread. So I recently purchased a Corsair H100i and installed it yesterday. Started overclocking of course and decided to go on this awesome forum to post and see if my CPU is over heating. Had to bump the voltage to get a stable overclock. I will post my specs below and a picture of me running Prime95 for 15 minutes. Thanks for everyone's input!

Case: Thermaltake Core V71
CPU: AMD FX 8350 4.0GHz (Overclocked to 4.8GHz) @ 1.416v
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1866MHz 9-10-9-27
PNY Nvidia GTX 770 2gb Factory OC
Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W
PNY 256 GB XLR8 PRO SSD
Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD

Also, I ended up turning off a bunch of settings in BIOS (for ex: Turbo CORE,C1E, Cool'n'Quiet, etc.) If I am happy with my overclock, am I allowed to turn anything back on?

Lol is 4.8 bad? Sorry! I'm not acting dumb, just new to overclocking and owning a AMD CPU.

Whats CNQ? Sorry! Again, new to overclocking so I don't know the abbreviations of things lol

Oh lol. Yeah I ran prime for an hour. No issues as I know. So I can enable Cool'n'Quiet. No other stuff right? And how are my temps by the way?

Thanks again!

Awesome! So you mean 70c socket or core? Cause my socket was already hitting 68c. My core is like at 55c. Daily, it will definitely be below 62. I only game and the highest it gets is like 40s(c)

i meant core.. i have read different things about the socket but i dont think you onto any bad temp area

coolnquiet just down clocks your cpu when it is not in use

Oh cool hahahaha. If I just leave it off, just so I don't screw anything up; does that do anything if I just leave it off? Or is it recommended to turn on?

Oh hahha. Well recommendations are always welcome. Turning it on won't screw up my overclock or anything right? Like you said, it just down clocks when I'm not using it right? Won't lock up my comp or BSOD right lol?

nothing to worry about with using it.. will help the life of your cpu and your electricity bill.. your gpu has the same sort of dynamic clock

Oh okay cool. I'll enable that sucker and see whats up. Thanks again!

I appreciate all of your help! So I turned it on and everything worked fine. I then went to do a Prime95 blend test and it froze my computer. I highly doubt it was the enabling of cool'n'quiet. I think I didn't stress test my computer enough. I misread your post earlier lol. I was so excited with the over clock I thought I read 10 minutes and not an hour lol...

So I decided to bump my voltage little by lttile. Currently been running prime 95 blend test for almost 30 minutes and I think everything has been good... As I was typing this it froze. Darn it... Voltage was at 1.4375 (had to increase voltage during first blend test from 1.416). Now I'm bumping it to 1.44375... Temps on voltage 1.4375 before it froze highest socket was 71c and core was 54c. Hopefully this next blend test doesn't lock up. It can't be because of the cool'n'quiet'quiet right? And at voltage 1.44375 it turned yellow in bios...

So I'm just reporting back... Froze again. At about the 30 minute mark on prime 95 blend... Bumped voltage to 1.45. Trying prime 95 blend again

So to decided to put the voltage back at 1.416 so I get the lower temps for now... My question is, if I just use my computer on normal daily usage like games, surfing, and watching movies or YouTube; is it stable enough? After I posted the first post at 7pm I played games and did my normal usage for about 5 hours and then decided to try prime95 blend. Only time it froze was on blend. Normal usage had no issues...

Btw... Was I supposed to turn "on" cool'n'quiet to always enabled if I wanted to enable it? Cause there's only 3 options. Disabled by CPU, always enabled, and always disabled

So after turning off cool'n'quiet and re-running the test at my original voltage of 1.416, my computer didn't lock up. But, 1 of the cores stopped 17 minutes in. So I bumped the voltage to 1.425 right now. Re running prime 95 blend.

So bumping the voltage to 1.425 didn't do anything, the system locked up. I find it odd that the system would lock up at 1.425 but not at 1.416... I'm stumped on what to do. I mean, Prime95 pushes your computer to 100% no? If I use my computer for normal daily usage of games, surfing the web, and movie/streaming; will my computer be fine at the state its in? I was hoping to just leave my voltage at 1.416.

Download coretemp here; http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
Run a prime95 test with coretemp open, and see if your CPU voltages/clock speeds fluctuate during the test.

The issue you're having is known as instability, quite a common encounter when finding your preferred overclock 😉
If your computer fails a Prime95 test, it means the clock rates are unstable. But you are right in believing it will not happen regularly, as nothing you will be doing will run your computer as hard as Prime95. That being said, many want a clock that will ALWAYS be stable, even in the worst of conditions... to play it safe. Nobody wants a frozen computer in the middle of an online game!

Hello A_Goat! I was waiting for your experience and response haha... So yeah... After deciding, I went back to my original overclock that I did. I ran Prime95 for 30 minutes and no issues. Only thing is... I had to drop down to 4.5GHz. The screen shot I posted above on the start of this post, I was at 4.8GHz but obviously, it wasn't stable. So I decided to go back to my original overclock. On 4.8GHz, I only changed the multiplier and voltage. For the below screenshot, I overclocked to 4.5GHz by doing NorthBridge overclocking from what JayzTwoCents states. Does everything look okay to you? Thanks again A_Goat!
