[SOLVED] Is my B450-F mobo dead?

On startup my PC made a sound as if a fan was hitting a cable (it didn’t make this sound the night before). I opened the case and rummaged around a bit to see if the sound would stop (as I have a lot of times before) but instead the pc shut off. No sound, no smell, it just stopped.

Now the pc simply won’t start. I’ve tried a bunch of things (from this forum) to try to figure out if there’s an easy fix or at least to know which piece I need to replace. So far I have:

  • Tested the PSU with the 24 pin paper clip test. The fan turns on.

Taken out the CMOS battery for a good hour.

Taken out the CMOS battery and held down the power button for 30s.

    Shorted the power pins.

Taken out the GPU and disconnected HDD.

Taken out the RAMs and tried one by one.

The only thing that shows a life sign is the RBG LED on the motherboard and a small LED on the graphics card (before I took it out). The rest is dead.

The parts are 3 months old - except for the PSU, it’s been around for a while now.

Any help is much appreciated. I’d order new parts today if I knew which one to replace.

Solution
Without anything else to go on the odds-on favorite is the PSU simply because it's 'older'. The paper-clip test is way simple and doesn't account for a lot of things that could cause a system to fail at start up. Getting hold of another known-good PSU would help to rule it out for sure.

It would also be helpful, at this point, to have a speaker connected to capture beep codes.

I don’t have an extra PSU but I will test my PSU with my older mobo/CPU/RAM/GPU to see if it starts up. If yes I’ll probably send the new parts back to the store (and keep using my old PC). If no, I’ll have a reason to buy a new PSU.

I’ll look for a speaker as well.

Will check back in. Thanks for replying!
