I really just need some opinions on my planned build. Is it well balanced? Will it run the latest games smoothly with high settings? Anyway, here are my specs:

CPU: AMD FX-8350

GPU: AMD Radeon R9-280X

RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600mhz
(2x 4GB)

PSU: 600W Corsair

HDD: 1TB SATA 7200rpm

OS: Windows 8.1

(PS: This is my first thread. Be gentle.)

Solution
I agree, go with the i5. Also some of Corsairs lower PSU's aren't up to par. I suggest this evga or a XFX XTR.

Solution
A balanced gamer will budget 2x the cpu cost for the graphics card.
By that metric, you are about right.

But... few games can use more than 2-3 cores, and the FX cores are slow, even with overclocking.
You have no cpu upgrade path. Consider a intel I5 of some sort.
This is particularly important if you play strategy games, sims and mmo which tend to be cpu bound and single threaded.
