Solution
It is not clear to me if you already have some of the parts you listed.

1. On ram, you want a 8gb kit made up of 2 sticks so you can get faster dual channel operation. 1600 or 1866 speed will be about $50.

2. If you own a decent 500w psu, it should be able to run a $200 GTX960 or possibly even a $320 GTX970card.
Exactly what make/model do you have?
If you need to buy a psu, look only for a quality unit from Seasonic, XFX, Antec for starters.

3. I would pick a i3-4370 @3.8 for about $150.

4. For a motherboard, I would pick a Z97 based motherboard to preserve your option to upgrade to a unlocked "K" cpu in the future.

Reading the suggested requirements, I think you would be marginal.
Past that, you buy an apu for the good integrated graphics.
If, in the future, you ever want to upgrade graphics, you will negate that advantage and will still be stuck with a weak cpu.

What is your budget?
Plan on budgeting 2x the cpu cost for your graphics card to get a balanced pc.
Today, I think intel is the way to go.
For example:
A $70 G3258(if you will overclock) and a $140 GTX750ti is balanced.
A $160 I5 and a GTX970 is balanced.
A i7-4790K and a GTX980ti is as good as it gets.
The nice thing about starting with a intel lga1150 motherboard is that you can easily upgrade.
The apu series have no real good upgrade paths.

Trouble is :
A $70 G3258(if you will overclock) and a $140 GTX750ti is balanced. -> PSU is fine
A $160 I5 and a GTX970 is balanced. --> Need better PSU
A i7-4790K and a GTX980ti is as good as it gets. ----> Need even better PSU : +/- $150
