I am building my second PC right now here are the specs.
-MOBO: MSI z270 gaming Plus
-CPU: Intel i5-8600k
-GPU: GTX1070 Ti
-PSU:EVGA 750W
-RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400
-Memory: 500 gb SSD and 1TB HHD
-CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster 120
So I received the package and the CPU was half out of the plastic container in the box, I proceeded to build the PC and once I finished I plugged it in and the lights turned on and immediately shut down. I checked everything 2 more times and same results. The MOBO has an EZ troubleshooting LED which indicates that something is wrong with the CPU. No there is no thermal paste anywhere that its not supposed to be. Also the MOBO pins all look straight. Any advice is appreciated and yes I followed all the sticky notes so please dont say do that again. Video of problem can be found here https://youtu.be/H-HefnjQHw4

Solution
the newer intel cpu wil lwork on the older 200 chipset mb but need a bios update. i dont known if msi updated that mb but your cpu not listed as a tested device. i would call msi supprt see if thta mb bios that on it will post your cpu or if you need to buy another mb (300) chipset mb.
