I recently began having problems with GTA 5 it would run perfectly with the settings I had. Now it drops frames and freezes. It pretty much crashes my computer when it freezes. My computer was pretty dirty the temps got pretty high with my cpu(fx 6300) The temps got up to 78c. It could of gotten higher.
Now after I've cleaned it i'm sitting at around 50c to 60c while gaming but still the game struggles. Is my cpu damaged? How can i tell?

(Asking for a friend sorry for the little info)

UPDATE
The pc now locks up. No stop error(bluescreen)
Just locks up completely you can hear the sound of the video/game drag on which sounds terrible.

Is the cpu dead? Gpu issue? My friend would like to know how it could be fixed. I'm going to visit and if they get the parts soon i could install them for them.

Specs
fx-6300
gtx 950
16gb ram(I do not know the branding)
Gigabyte Mobo(do not know the model)

Solution
make sure there no dust in the power supply making a bridge. go to amd web page make sure you have the newest chipset drivers installed. take the side of the case off see if the vrm are over heating or not holding. with the case off see if it still locks up. if it locking up download hardware info see if the voltages from the power supply are fine. make a bootable memtest usb stick. run it over night see if any memory errors pop up.
The max temp that CPU can handle is 70c. I couldn't tell you if damage occurred, but it's unlikely. I'd think that it would throttle back once it reaches those temps so as to prevent damage in fact.

For now, the best thing would probably be to remove the Heatsink from the CPU, clean the surfaces, then re-apple thermal grease.
