When I first did my build, I was on a budget but I did it with plans to upgrade some of the components in the future. I plan on doing some gaming with AAA titles and want to get decent FPS. I started out with the i5 8400 but I am upgrading my CPU today to the i7 8700. I have an ASUS OC Geforce 1060 3gb and I am concerned my GPU is going to be a bottleneck.

Current specs
i7 8700
16 gb DDR4 2666
ASUS OC geforce 1060 dual fan 3 gb
ASUS TUF pro gaming z370 mobo
1 tb barracuda HDD
ASUS blu ray drive

As mgallo848 said....you will be able to play games pretty well....basically you will be able to pretty much max things out at 1080p.....but you will also max out the 1060 well before you max out the CPU.

There's nothing wrong with this really.

Down the road you can pick up a much faster GPU if you choose.

The GTX 1060 is a great 1080p 144hrz card. I personally have the GTX 1060 6 GB in my gaming system and does an outstanding job with games like PUBG, Wow, Overwatch, DayZ..etc Now it is true that the small Memory size will limit you with some games. Games with a lot of textures will run a bit slower but it's only a few % if it does happen.

Yes, if you are getting that CPU and looking to upgrade your GPU now is a good time, GPU prices have went down to or below MSRP and currently Newegg has some very good deals on GTX 1080's.$ 470-500 ish for very good cards. The GTX 1080 is roughly 70-80% more powerful and runs most games 50-90% better.

update: Just purchased a pre owned 1070 founders edition on ebay. PC benchmark says that upgrades my system from "battle cruiser" to "Nuclear Submarine"
