Is my GPU dead?

While I'm waiting for my HD 7950 to arrive, I decided to plug in a Radeon x1900xtx to play some DX9 games like TF2 and the Resident Evil series, thinking its superior bandwidth would help over my onboard intel hd 2500.

I reapplied thermal paste and plugged in the fan of the Zalman cooler and plugged the card and the PCIE cable in. It worked, booted to Windows and after a few minutes it went black and never came back. I thought it was the screen saver but nothing happened when I moved the mouse or pressed a key.

I then removed the GPU to check if something was wrong, checked the connections and plugged it in again (with PC off of course) and nothing. It now goes directly through the Intel HD, even when primary GPU is set to PCIE in BIOS. The red lights on the GPU still flicker when the PC is turned on.
I also have a Geforce 7950GT that never worked on this new PC (with an Asus H61 motherboard). My 9500GT works though, and I'm using that but it can't run REmake well.

Did I kill the Radeon with my bare hands? Is it possible? I've handled GPUs before like this without nothing happening. That and the 7950GT not working made me think if there's any kind of incompatibility between these new motherboards and Intel iGPUs and very old DX9 GPUs.

Thanks in advance.

I did it, and also realigned the pins on the DVI connectors, and nothing worked.

However, cleaning the pcie contacts on the Geforce 7950GT made it work! Thank you for setting me on that path at least! The 7950GT is about as strong so I should be good.

Radeon still a mystery though.
