[SOLVED] Is my GTX 1050 busted

I have an Acer A715-71G-746H with:

• Intel i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz (Turbo: 3.8GHz)
• GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 VRAM (Desktop version NOT mobile)
• 16GB DDR4 RAM

Now my problem is that I've been struggling to play games at a solid 60fps at even low-medium settings, but I've seen people getting a smooth 60fps on high settings on most games with stuff like gtx 970 and a worse CPU.

For example I can barely get 30fps with several lag spikes in Deus Ex Mankind Divided on medium settings with MSAA disabled meanwhile here's someone getting a smooth 60fps with a gtx 1050 2gb, but with a much worse i3 processor:

Can someone let me know why this is happening and what should I do to resolve this?

a GTX 970 is a better GPU than the 1050 so that's not a surprise
and some i3's have quad core (8xxx, 9xxx) or like the i3-7350K are unlocked (can be OC'ed for better per core performance) so neither case makes your GTX 1050 broken. It's just an entry level GPU
also might try turning off MSAA

A GTX1050 is much, much weaker than a GTX970 4gb.

A 970 almost doubles the performance of a desktop 1050.


Also, your CPU or GPU may be thermal throttling

Have you checked CPU and GPU temps with something like HWinfo or Realtemp?

Is the Windows power plan set to high performance?
Is the Nvidia GPU set to be the preferred graphics processor in Nvidia Control Panel?
Also in the control panel, is the GPU set to prefer maximum performance?

Have you tried disabling vsync in nvidia control panel and ingame?
