So recently my computer has been freezing up a lot. Sometimes applications crash, sometimes the whole computer freezes just completely, nothing responds, including the mouse and keyboard, the only thing left moving on the screen is the mouse loading animation. Only way to turn off the computer is by holding down the power off button for 5 seconds. Im pointing my finger at the old HDD on which my system is installed. Its an old Western Digital Green 1TB drive which is probably at least 5 years old. Everything else is new and I doubt is causing the problem - My RAM is Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB, 2 sticks of it. Ran MemTest86+ for around 45 minutes which yielded no errors. CPU is a i7 4770k which is cooled by a Cooler Master 212 EVO. Motherboard is a Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H. PSU is a XFX Pro 650W. The only card I have on my mobo is an old WIFI adapter that has served me well. So, is my HDD at fault here? If it is, should I get a new one? If I should, I got my eye on the new Western Digital Black 2TB WD2003FZEX.
