Hi,

My laptop ASUS q500a, which is 4 years old. Stopped working. It was suspended all night. Then on the morning, I turned it on, logged into Windows, opened Chrome and it shut off by itself.

When I tried to turn it on back again, it only last for about 5 - 20 seconds before it shut downs again. Some times it lasts about 1 min.

Things I tried:
- Removed the battery and tried only with the power supply.
- Removed the 2 memory RAM sticks. Cleaned them. Tried with them individually.
- I replaced the original storage (HDD) with an SSD 2 years ago. I removed to see if that was the problem but nope, after some seconds on waiting for boot device it turns off.

I opened the laptop:
- The thermal paste on the CPU was OK, it wasn't dry at all. Still I replaced it with a new one.
- I removed the other components like Wireless/Bluetooth card, same problem.
- I removed the motherboard battery (the small battery that looks like a watch battery). Same.

Important:
- Since last year, the laptop was getting a a little hot on common use like having like 10 tabs on Chrome and maybe Spotify desktop and VLC player opened.
- A week ago the laptop overheated playing Age Of Empires 2 HD.
- The laptop has overheated (shutdown itself due to high temperature) in the past, like 4 times in total.
- Fan is working ok, you can hear it going fast when the laptop is getting hot.

Could it be the CPU? Do I need to get a new one of the same model and test it?

Please help me!

Fan seems to be working OK. It runs from slow to fast depending on temperature. Also, is not dirty/blocked.

Thanks for your answer. I'll contact him to see if he can help out.
