Hello,
I am new to this forum, so sorry if i make any mistakes anyway i have an asrock 970 pro 3 r 2.0 motherboard i was on a game and in the middle of it out of the blue my pc just paused with a black screen fans still spining so immediately i turned the pc off 5 minutes later i tried turning it back on and it wouldn't even go into bios so i thought it was the ram, because this has happened before on another pc so i sent the ram back for exchange and they sent me new ram so i put it in and nothing changed so i took the motherboard out just to have a look at it and it turned out that on the otherside of the motherboard there was a short i think i could see what was wrong looks like the motherboard has had a short circuit, so i put all the components back to only just to my old mb everything the same just a different mb and it boots okay but i don't go past bios because i just wanted to test it to see if it worked lol so i know it's definitely the motherboard because of the short, the problem is i dont wanna just put the new mb in because I'm afraid of the same thing happening again so i wanted to know if anyone knows or might know why or how this might of happened so it doesn't happen again am hoping that the motherboard is faulty because I can just replace it lol thank you for reading and thx in advanced here are my pc specs:

Asrock 970 r3 2.0...
Amd phenom ii x6 1090t
1 x 8gb corsair vengeance ddr3 ram 1600
Geforce gtx 760 pny enthusiast edition
Wd 500gb hdd
Gx 650w psu

Well if it was working, It isn't faulty. It was most likely a power surge. Do you have the PC plugged into a surge protector?

I also need to tell is that i have put a new fan in the power supply, the fan has got a plug so i just unplugged the one that was in there and plugged the new one in the only thing is i had to solder wires to the new fan but it was simple to do just hope I've not done anything wrong i can't see anything wrong because i put the psu back together and it works and the new fan spining and doesn't overheat (it is 74 cfm).

Also I'm trying to add everything I've changed before it happened to determine what the culprit is, so to add the only other thing I've changed or done is i went into bios and changed the frequency of the ram from 1600mhz to auto (1333mhz) and half an hour later thats when the pc crashed when i first got the motherboard the ram was on auto so i assume it can work at that speed just because it's on auto anyway i changed it to 1600 i know it can run at this speed because it says 1600 on the actual stick... Lol
Sorry i wrote so much i just wanted to point out exactly what I've done or what has happened because it should be easier to see what the problem is
Thx for reading and taking your time

My guess is that there was a power surge and it fried your motherboard. Do you know anyone who could take a look at it?

Nono, i don't know of anyone 😛 i looked at the burn mark on the motherboard and if you look really close at the burnt strip it looks like it's going from the chassis fan (3 pin) to communication port which nothing is plugged into the com port but i did have a fan which is 0.5 amps could that have anything do with it? That particular fan is the old psu fan still works but i just for some reason plugged it in the 3 pin connecter to see if it worked not realising it was 0.5 amps but i only had that in for like 5 mins max and when the computer stopped or even crashed that 0.5 amp fan wasn't in it had only been plugged in before (for 5 mins)
