I'm confused as to which one it is, I always thought it was a desktop till someone mentioned it was a Small Form Factor. I checked and got mixed answers, Dell user guide lists it as a Small form factor while the technical guide list it as a desktop?
This is the Optiplex I have?

That is also a Desktop SFF.

SFF = small and skinny, as defined by whatever Dell says it is.
I'd call it small form factor. Dell (and the others) manuals and name schemes are super annoying because they'll sell X-YY in both a fat desktop and a slim small form factor. So you'll see a lot of double talk in the manual about what can and can not fit in them.

Well if it's a small form factor than what the heck is this?

It is both...a Desktop Small Form Factor.
As opposed to a laptop.
Of full size (ATX) desktop.
