Hey guys, name is Justin, I am wondering if you guys think my PC is still good for games even today, a friend told my my graphics card is bottlenecking my cpu but I feel it isn’t. What do you guys think?
Here are specs

CPU-intel core i7 3770k lga1155
Motherboard -asrock extreme11 z77 extreme11 z77
Psu- 850 watt Corsair
Graphics card -gigabyte g1 gaming gtx 1080 8 gb
Hard drive - crucial mx100 256 gb solid state drive
1 terrobyte sata swapable sata drive

Ram-crucial ballistic tactical led 8gbs ddr3

So what do you guys think of my system? Is it worth upgrading to a newer cpu like an i7 6800k? Would you say I am futureproofed for years to come?

Solution
You're friend is wrong. It's the other way around. Your CPU is probably bottlenecking your GPU. What kind of cooler do you have for the CPU? If it's good enough you can overclock and get more performance. 8GB of RAM is not enough for a few new titles such as Battlefield 1 and Final Fantasy XV that I know of off the top of my head. look into investing into a new 16GB kit of RAM for your system instead of a new CPU. Because if you go for a anything newer you'll need a new motherboard and if you go for anything newer than 5th gen meaning 6th gen and newer (skylake and up) then you'll need to invest into DDR4 RAM and that can get quite expensive. If you are going to upgrade to a new CPU that will require a new motherboard and DDR4 then I...

Assuming you have an ok cooler but not a great one you can spend less money on getting a better cooler and overclocking your CPU and getting a 16GB kit of RAM instead of a new CPU, Mobo and possibly RAM.

The jump is not worth it considering the price you have to pay.
I7 starting from 3xxx generation is still good enough.
If you still want to upgrade, skip everything and go directly to Coffee Lake I7 or Ryzen 7.
If you aim for 144/165fps gaming, you have to jump to Coffee Lake I5/I7.
Waiting for the next gen is the better option.

GTX1080 is still very strong. No need to touch this part.

If you have only 8GB RAM, I would recommend to get another 8GB.
RAM price is high tho'.

Aside from only having 8GB RAM, your rig is fine.

You'll eventually want to replace the CPU, perhaps for Ice Lake or Tiger Lake (I'm in the same boat), but there's no real compelling need to do so now. The 8700k is faster and you get the extra cores, but at least for gaming, you're not getting *that* much of a benefit for that.

Here are my recommendations for upgrades that will cost you less than getting half of a new system

I have a 100 dollar coolermaster cooler and it’s a pretty big one actually so I have a good one. I average between 85-95 frames per second in a lot of games in 1080p and I only game in 1080p. Not really a fan of 4K because it strains my eyes but in battlefield 1 I average 70-85 frames per second so I can still game pretty hard, my whole point to this post is would upgrading even make a difference for me because my 1080 and 3770k seem to be doing perfectly fine on a lot of games for the most part the new final fantasy gives me no more or no less than 69 frames per second, it once in a while drops to 60. One person told me that with the cpu I have it’s not really worth upgrading because it will run most games as it is unless I wanted to do 8k gaming then that’s a diff story

Yeah, as I stated, it's a fine CPU especially if you overclock it so no need to upgrade anything right now. I still recommend getting more RAM though.
