I have an office phone I got at a thrift store. It has two outlets on the bottom, one is for LINE and the other says AUX. I do not have an adapter so can't plug it in. I can buy one on Ebay but I would like to know if it's a VOIP phone first. Thanks.

I think VOIP is a service. I have a MagicJack VOIP device that allows me to connect my old VTech analog phone (Line in) to my PC which allows me to make telephone calls. Depending on your Internet Service Provider, your router may actually have a connection for your telephone which would allow you to make VOIP calls.

It is hard to say what exactly that is without massive reading of manuals.

In general phones like that only work with a large PBX systems. These are using some proprietary form of voice over IP.

The phones are trash without the PBX systems in most cases and they don't even work different types of PBX from the same vendor. I remember seeing a semi truck load of similar phones being unloaded at a electronics scrap recycler.

Now there are some models that can connect to a old style analog phoneline. Most the features like all the fancy keys and display will not function without the pbx but you might be able to make simple phone calls on a old style analog line. Have to read the manual to see if that phone has that option.

Almost all true VoIP phones have a standard ethernet port and you just hook them up to a standard router. Even this is kinda rare, cell phone kill everything.
