Is my poor image quality due to VGA?

Recently I have bought myself a new PC, and have set it to 1080p on my display. The monitor I am using worked perfectly with my old laptop, connected with VGA, and all my GPU drivers are up to date. Yet, I am getting a blurry un-crisp image. I have run Clear Type. Changing display scaling to as large as possible seems to slightly improve the image.

My question is, is the result of my bad image quality the VGA cable I am using? If so, then why did my display work perfectly when connected to my old computer with the same cable?

Well for one cables do ware out, a fact people don't all ways take into consideration.

VGA will not actually carry 1080p at 60htz without lag and other problems.I suspect your laptop was running at 30 htz or some other get around. You need a display port or dvi-d cable. Kenable on amazon actually do a high quality dvi-d cable for £4 in the u.k. I notice dvi-d cable is a very slight colour improvement over single link, so it is not worth messing about for a pound or so.

Thanks for the reply, but I left out one thing from my original post. My VGA cable is plugged into my GPU through a dvi adapter. Should this still carry a dvi quality image, or is it sticking to VGA?

It converts it to a VGA signal and the VGA cable has a upper limit on how much quality it can transport. It's the limitation of the cable not the output of the GPU sorry.

Ok, good news. This means I can just get an HDMI cable and be done with it.

Time to upgrade your monitor. ASUS has some cheap but good monitors on Newegg you can pick up. If you want to spend the least amount of money, but be happy, i'd recommend this one:
