Is my processor overloaded?

Hello guys,

Recently, I've changed the casing and CPU cooler of my system. My processor is Intel Core i3-540 (1st generation). I know that it's a really old model, but still functioning properly.

I use CPUID HWMonitor for monitoring my PC temperature and other things. According to the software, the highest power consumption by my CPU is 73W.

Before installing the CPU cooler (Antec A40), the CPU power consumption would vary from 15-20W up to 60-70W. But now, it's fixed at 73W. I can assure you that my CPU usage is below 10%, so there's no way the CPU is on load.

What could be the issue? Is the power consumption of my CPU ok? Or, should I ignore it?

Solution
I still think it's a false reading.

You should be seeing temperatures in between.....not JUST these temperatures.

I think it's a glitch. I might reload the software. I might also try another app that measures power and see how that looks.

The power consumption flickers at 15-16W sometimes, then going back to 73W.

It's not temperature...it's power consumption. Temperature is fine (55°C max)

Sorry....I mistyped....I know you mean power. I still tend to think the same thing.

The processor doesn't just operate at two stable points as the data describes.
