Ive had this Tower for about 9 months, the past 2 weeks I have experienced Blackouts, just treight shutdown like power was turned off. I didnt pay much attention to it at first because I assumed it was because of the storm I was playing in. Well after that day it kept happening.

Two situations occur.

1. Computer shutsdown and boots right back up, goes through whole startup process.

2. Computer shuts down, and then tries to boot up for a second and then trips back off again, then it does this cycle of on and off into peputuity I assume (I stop it as quickly as possible.) While doing this cycle of horror it makes 1 loud click per boot on.

This problem occurs randomly, but if i boot up FarCry3 it will trip in 15 minutes or less. Doing less tasks like browsing or netflix doesnt seem to trip it as often, although it does happen prety much once a day.

Event Manager says event 41 with category of 63, indicating a power failure to the kernel.

The largest change in the past 9 months has been an upgrade in monitor, from 20 inch to a 55 inch TCL TV. I dont see this as too much of a problem though with my current graphics card.

From the info I have gathered from the internet I beleive its a bad PSU, and have ordered one. I just really want a second opinon if I am missing something.

Ill try posting HWMoniter stats

How old is the graphics card? It would be a possible poor connection on those two contacts for sure. There may still be enough surface area to make the contact.

You could say that it is a manufacturer defect, since there is no way to know when the contacts were damaged. But I would just site the shut down problems, and point out that you tried a new power supply if asked.[/quotemsg]

It is a year old. So that's like 1 million human years. You know, gpu to human time.

I was given an A OK to RMA it. Even if it ends up with repair or replacement I don't mind either, I just want another checkbox invade it's still not the issue. Although, running on intel does seem to work without any shutdowns. I will know after a few days use.

I will update as progress is made. I really appreciate you taking time and helping me. You re an A++ kinda human.

While the GPU is at ASUS to be repaired, or whatever they choose, I plugged in the Diagnostic Card to the motherboard, and there's no lights or any indication it's powered.

This is the kit I went with

So I emailed the company that makes these kits and have asked for assistance.

In the mean time I am now unsure if either the PCI slots are damaged or if the motherboard is not providing power. The diagnostic board could also be a dud.

You can wait for the other card. Or you can replace the graphics card. Then you have the option of a new high end card or a cheaper entry level. You can also get a used graphics card.

If a friend has a backup GPU, you may be able to borrow it.

And you do have the option of using the integrated graphics while you are waiting.

I'll look at a used card, might be nice to have around. Thank you.

Also the integrated is nice, even if it's just enough to do Netflix.

Integrated graphics get a bad rap. After building my system, I was broke. So I used the integrated graphics while saving up some cash. It wasn't up to much for gaming, but it worked surprising well for everything else. And they are better now then they have ever been.

I've been arguments about integrated graphics, but it will always be my position that they are a plus when buying a new processor.

I have bought a nice 2GB $100 GPU, will be here on tuesday so I can run tests. Atleast then Ill be able to run more GPU related tests to see if it crashes. If it doesnt crash then I know its the GPU, and if it does then Ill have to order a new motherboard and continue with that.

Im leaning towards it being the GPU since the Integrated graphics hasnt crashed, even when outputting to the same 55inch HD TV.

1 more step forward.

Ill have to agree that having a "backup" GPU is really nice.

Im really starting to think how neat it would be to put some LAN box together with a couple cheap parts. But then I'll have to find friends. 😉

There are a few cases with built in handles. Here is a mid-tower from Cooler Master.

Terry,

I put in the new graphics card, this "Beast" , and after running furmark have the same crash as before.

Parts that havnt been replaced or tested:
Motherboard.

I purchased the wrong diagnostics card so I have another one on the way.

Im really at a loss as to what is happening.

If you have upgraded the motherboard drivers and BIOS, the only thing left is to replace the motherboard. I think you already ran memtest (if not that run that if you can to eliminate the RAM).

Intermittent errors are hard to troubleshoot. With the new motherboard do a fresh install of the operating system. Also install the latest motherboard drivers and all device drivers.

I tried to switch the monitor to my last setup when I knew everything worked.
Cant get video to display via graphics card or even built in graphics.
Three of four diagnostic lights went on,
CPU, RAM, then VGA. BOOT never did go off.

I quickly turned off the computer to avoid any other issues. I will be ordering a new motherboard. Unsure if other componants are damaged.

No sparks, no smoke, no smell.

Ill be ordering a new motherboard and RMAing this one.

Agreed?

It was the motherboard.
Replacing the motherboard stopped the crashing. I waited until my GPU was here today just to give it a harder stress testing.

Thank you for sticking with me terry, you were a great assitance :)

I'm glad that you have your system up and running again.
