My current build is :

CPU: Intel Core i5 3550
Motherboard: Gigabyte H77M-D3H
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz (2x 4GB)
Hard Drive: 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
SSD: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" SSD
Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
Case: Xigmatek Asgard
PSU: 400W Xigmatek

I want to upgrade to a Zotac Nvidia Geforce GTX 970. All the normal PSU calculators I use don't have the 970 as an option yet. Can anyone help?

Solution
Well, you'll probably be able to squeeze in just under 400W, depending on how much the other parts are using. I don't know the exact numbers, but it should be under 400 even with the GTX 970. The thing about it is that, since it's a Maxwell architecture card, it has very low usage compared to how powerful it is. So yeah, you'd have enough juice, but just barely.

But I wouldn't recommend it. Your usage should never exceed 80% of the power supply's capacity, especially if you're using an older one. So if you're getting a GTX 970, I would recommend you upgrade your PSU to at least 600W.

here's a few I would recommend. They're all 80+ gold, so they'll be pretty efficient. You might think that the extra buck isn't worth it, but your power...

They might be capable of double what you're using, but that doesn't matter, they don't cost much more than their weaker versions and you'll have plenty room for upgrade. Also make sure to use PCPartPicker.com to check if the PSU is compatible with your build, although from what I could tell, it is. They're mostly universal so it shouldn't be a problem, but never hurts to check. You can also use the site to calculate the max amount of W the system uses, and run benchmarks. Just use the "build a pc" function, find your parts and you'll have a clear picture of what where is, how.

Solution
Xigmatek doesn't have any 400 Watt PSU models that would properly power your system configuration with a GeForce GTX 970.

All of the Xigmatek 400 Watt models, that I've looked at, have a maximum combined +12V current rating that is inadequate and also none of them have the correct number of PCI Express supplementary power connectors.
