So, I'm building my first PC and want to make sure everything is just right. I'm somewhat nervous, to be honest. I have a couple of questions regarding RAM and motherboard.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte X470 Gaming 5, and will use a Ryzen 7 2700x. I bought the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 RAM (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16). However, I did so without checking my motherboard's QVL (thinking that, since pc part picker dot com marked no incompatibility issues, it would be fine). And, as it turns out, this particular memory kit is not included in the QVL (several other Corsair Vengeance models are, but not CMK16GX4M2B3200C16). I don't know if that'll create issues...
Also, I know Gigabyte's X470s need an O.C. to run with RAM at 3200MHz, but I'm naively unsure about how to do that. I heard about a mysterious and intimidating pre-set profile (X.M.P) in the BIOS; but I have no idea what precise steps I must take nor what I should watch out for. I've looked for some tutorials, but haven't found any so far that go through what I need. Also, I haven't been able to finish the build, but I want to know what to expect.
So, two main questions:
1) Do you think my RAM will create any compatibility issues? If so, what could go wrong and what should I do?
2) Do you know what I must do to set up XMP just right?
And one last thing. Is there any optimal way to physically set up the RAM in the mobo slots? Which slots should I use? I know I should alternate them (I shouldn't put them right next to each other), but otherwise don't know if it makes a difference. I found no specification in the manual for this, so I assume it's all the same?
