Hey guys just wanted to ask for help because I recently upgraded to a ryzen 5 5600 from a ryzen 5 3600 the motherboard is an MSI b450m mortar max, I knew it wasn’t compatible out of the box so I updated the BIOS in advanced which was probably closer to a year now because I was anticipating an upgrade down the line,I tried to open it up to see the cpu light on my motherboard was lighting up and not giving me anything on the screen so I figured it was maybe a cpu compatibility issue? I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t mess up with the bios, hoping someone could help me look at this because Im pretty sure It was compatible
I don’t wanna tinker with in the meantime just to make sure if it is the bios or whatever…

heres the current bios I made sure to take a pic of it just in case I messed up

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-MORTAR-MAX/support#cpu

Heres the motherboard supported cpu list

Please let me know if it is indeed compatible with my mobo and or if I need to update the bios again

Any help is appreciated cheers

You would've need at least BIOS version 7B89v2F before you dropped the processor on the socket, you were on 7B89v2J meaning you were good to go as is.

Your board has the BIOS Flash button, please follow through steps outlined on page 40;

After you've verified that the BIOS was flashed to the latest version, clear the CMOS. You can do so by disconnecting from the wall and display, then removing the battery from the board, press and hold down the power button for 30secs and then replace the battery after 30mins.

Wait so do I need to update to the latest one then? If my bios was good to go could it be a different problem? Im worried if thats the case lol

No reason not to update BIOS to newest one available right now. They are downward compatible with exception of 1st gen Ryzen (yours is 3rd). Almost all the difference is in AGESA code which may help with RAM and PBO performance.
So the problem could be something else other than the bios? Still really confused because the cpu light turns on the motherboard whenever I try to open it up 😞
