I obtained a score of 6231 with AMD Radeon R9 280X(1x) and Intel Core i5-4590 Processor on firestrike with only tomshardware and skype open...

Is my score low? What's going on? 🙁

Solution

Then maybe 40C the best the stock cooler can do at idle. Could be small case, lack of sufficient air flow, poor cable management... any of those fit the bill?
For a 280x? No, I wouldn't call it particularly low. It seems fairly normal. Firestrike is synthetic. Because of this, there can be some outliers that can make a score seem lower. Many people focus seriously on 3dmark, but it really should not be judged as a method for evaluating sheer performance. Use games like Metro: Last Light and Crysis 3 for that. I believe that is the most effective and least faulty method of benchmarking.

Refer to these: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3413812 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3970080

Notice how far apart those two results, using identical hardware was. The former was due to my CPU not boosting properly, as a result of Bios settings. Simple things like that, which will likely go unnoticed by most games, are sometimes detected by Firestrike, and as a result, can produce varying results, even by several hundred points. Be wary of all this.

Yes, you should be getting this score :

No, ot really isn't necessary. You could OC the card. Can you link the score? I want to see if your CPU is boosting properly. Could you post some Print Screens from your Bios of that is possible? Honestly, I think our score is fine. There are too many variables, and with synthetic benchmarks, anything could happen. I would not worry about it.

I did a restart and got these results.

And temps are still in the 40Cs

Is that the score I should be getting? It's not overclocked.

Thank you all again for helping me :)

That looks better.
As far as temps, do you have Windows set for balanced or performance in Ctl Pnl/Power Options? And do you have speed step enabled in BIOS?
At idle, my i5-4690K is 33-37C @ 4.2 GHz
