Who says it isn't? I said what the card was based off of, not what its capable of. Because it uses its own custom library and something other then a bloated windows OS, its capable of running code much faster then other cards. Have you tried to run GTA4 on a x1900? How did that turn out for you? The original xbox used a GF3, and it could run games better then PC could for years afterwards. Just because the card is based off of a PC card doesn't mean its limited to the same performance. By tweaking the code, it can still do great things.

In that case:

1) He's never used a decent PC, or
2) He's seen a decent PC with the graphics turned down.

However, the graphics that they manage with old hardware on those consoles is pretty good.

If you want to play games, DO NOT get a GT 220. It is one of the worse video cards out there on the market. It's just a rebranded old video card design with a die shrink. The number on it doesn't mean anything.

If you want Nvidia, I'd say get a GTS 250. If you're open to all brands, then a 5770 or 4870 1GB are both good cards for gaming that can be had in the $140-160 dollar range. A 5750 is decent as well and goes head to head with the GTS 250 and costs less than a 5770. You also get DX11 and Eyefinity with the 5700 series card, so you can play Dirt 2 and Alien vs Predator in DX11!

I too have recently purchased the 1024MB nVidia GeForce GT220 for a desktop with a 20inch hd monitor. i will be planning on playing World of Warcraft which in my own perspective i cant see as having as big graphics as crysis cod4 etc. would show. so my question is ive been hearing alot of bad things about this card but would it support World of Warcraft on a high resolution 20inch monitor?

If you still have the receipt, RUN to the store and return it now. It is a crappy video card for the price. How much did you pay for it? You'd be better off with a 5700 series video card or a 9800GT/GTS 250.

i wouldnt say that the gt 220 is bad card as i play crysis and gta 4 on it.
here are my videos. gta 4-"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHoBuT65Um8"
crysis-"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4U_9rxuC88".
but it is only a normal profile card so i wont say its the best but can handle a lot of games.
i recommend you to save up for gts 250 it goes as high as 100 fps on most latest games. So if you want to play recent 2009 games than gt 220 is okay. if not then gts 250.

So whats the video supposed to prove? We have no idea what resolution your running, or what the detail settings are. For all we know, the draw distances are a step above zero, and your running at 800x600. Whats your draw distance? Other settings? AA? Resolution? That video shows us nothing.

To expand a bit on what I was saying in one of my previous posts, yes the GT220 can play these games. There is a difference however in being able to play the game and PLAY the game. Sure the GT220 can run it, you won't get any error messages about missing DX9 or SM3 support. But for many if your going to play, it should look as best as possible. This means every detail setting should be on max. You should have at least 2/4AA enabled as well. You should also be playing on 1680x1050 or better. For example, I play TF2 on my 8800GS. I have every detail setting on high, with the exception of AA which is at 2xMSAA. I play at 1680x1050. This is an example of PLAYing the game. I used to have an x1800XT, and could do the same, but only at 1280x1024. Going to 1600x1200 was to much for that card.

If your willing to turn settings off, or you play at a lower resolution, you don't need anything more then the GT220. If you want everything to look good, then your going to need the hardware to do it. And as much as some in this thread have claimed, its not the GT220.

I bought it with the a Dell 546 inspiron 6gb rham 500gbhard drive which i think is a pretty good deal with 20inch monitor hd etc. id rather not return such a deal i wont come across again. But it did come with a lower video card and i only paid an addition $40 for the upgrade to the GT 220 so i'm hoping that's not much of a money loss and down the road if i have problems or liked to upgrade i can purchase a high standard Video Card. I was only consernd if it can hold its weight as a decent enough card of WoW. or at least high enough where i don't have to turn EVERY detail down.

hi
you seem to know alot. so can you tell me is the 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce GT220 ok to play empire total war. i just want to be able to play on a medium level and not that botherd about having amazing graphics.

cheers

all i can say to object is that i have never played games below 1024x768.
never used settings below anti aliasing x2 and antistrophic filtering x 2.
the gt 220 is not that bad.
you can play nearly all the latest games on 1280x1024 or 1680x1050.
there are never any problems in the games.
i am playing far cry 2 with dx 10 on ultra high settings.
so i dont think that dx is a problem.
please if you want to really criticize this card try seeing this card in action.
try finding out and be utmost sure if what you say is true.
you are trying to give this card a bad image.

btw you can play that on high and with beautiful graphics.
see my other vids.

Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8300
(2.50GHz, 4MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
4GB memory
640GB hard drive
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce GT220 graphics
DVD Rewriter
8x USB and 1x FireWire port
Media card reader
VGA, DVI, HDMI and eSata connections

should that be ok then

It's still the worst choice imaginable. Why do you want a gts220? It's awful, just get a 9600gso or a 4670, there is no reasonable reason to get a 220 instead of either of those cards.

dude calm down. its up to them

^ except for the people who have already bought it saying how "awesome" it is. Every review of this card I've read say its to expensive for what it offers. You can either buy something else cheaper for the same performance, or chip in a few $$$ more and get much better performance. The cheap high powered cards are the 4670/9600GSO.

you can play nearly all the latest games on 1280x1024 or 1680x1050.
there are never any problems in the games.
i am playing far cry 2 with dx 10 on ultra high settings.

Care to show us a video of you playing far cry 2 with DX10 on ultra high settings at 1680x1050 with the frame anything close to 45 or 60FPS? Didn't think so.

anyway guys most of them have already bought this card and i think we should help them out about knowing the exact thing it can do so to make them feel assure.

if you want to buy a card or are going to buy a pc go for a gts 250 or other recommendations on this thread.
most of us want to play latest games on intense graphics settings. all i can say is that the gt 220 is a normal profile card and was not actually made for gaming.
it was made for cheap desktops which could support win vista or 7.
it is recommended for video editing, blu-ray support or home media.
so its an home entertainment card.
anyway this card is really good if you want to use the pure video tech.
it makes blu-ray really sharp. even the dvds are more clear on this card than a dvd player.

i would suggest a faster computer. 5200 is slow these days. And I'm sure some will agree and some will not. To a point you have to look forward to the new games that your friends have. You may like them but with a 5200 you may not be able to play them. You may be able to for a while with a 1gig video card but it doesn't last forever. I agree with getting either a 250 or the 9800. I have a 9600gt oc. good luck with whatever you do in the card department

he gave the answer so no one should have any problems.
thanks for backing up.
nice answer.
