I am asking is if it is worth it to overclock my Processor as i don't know if i will see much of an improvement for what i need it to do. Also the saying "a candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long" sticks with me every time i think about it.

My computer specs:

OS: windows 7 ultimate
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
CPU- AMD FX-8320
CPU Cooler- Arctic freezer 13
RAM- 8GB corsair vengeance
GPU- AMD Radeon HD 7790
PSU- 600W Corsair builder series

I mainly use my computer for gaming and some light editing on random stuff so would i see any improvement or is it just not worth it and safe to keep it at it's stock speed.

If you are into hardware enough and find it interesting , then yes it is worth it. In some cases it is worth it based on the Value of the CPU. Take The Pentium D 805 for example one of Intel Cheapest Pentium Desktop SKUs at the time. Once Overclocked , and most could hit 4.0GHz or more. Now the FX 8320 and FX 6300 offer great value and more so when Overclocked
How long do you want your chip to last? 10 years? Maybe not worth it. If you plan on upgrading in the next 3 years or so though you should see a performance gain with editing and rendering. It's basically free performance, just do your research and OC slowly and gradually. (I should take my own advice)
