Question Is PCI ex x 1 fast enough to run 7 x USB 3.2 sockets?

Hi,

I have ran out of USB sockets. Easy done these days. Anyhow been looking and found this.

It has 7 x USB 3.2 sockets but is PCI ex x 1 even close to handling all that. TBH it is unlikely I will ever require more than 2 at superfast speeds. But just wondering is the spirit of learning.

What will these 7 devices be doing?

7x keyboards, OK.
7x SSDs, not OK.

What motherboard are you working with? Asking since your motherboard should have more than ample number of USB ports. That card would have a 3rd party controller which is often times slower than the chipset controller on your motherboard.

It will be more like a USB hub than anything else. Those are all 5Gbps USB 3.2 ports and the PCIe card is a PCIe 3.0 x1 which has 8Gbps bandwidth. That means it can handle 1 port at full speed.

Yeah this was my thinking. It will totally bottleneck. Then again like I say I doubt Ill ever need the full bandwidth on 7 ports.

My mother board only has 4 ports. Forgot what it is not and too lazy too look but is a small one. Asrock.

Well for £20 its probs worth it for the 7 ports alone. Ill ust use this for general connections what will free my mobo up for specifically faster uses.
