My main question is:
Is a RAID-0 "Samsung 850 Pro" Faster or Slower Read/Write Than a Single UnRAIDed Samsung 970 Pro M.2



RAID 0 -
X2 Samsung 850 Pro 512GB Internal 2.5" (MZ7KE512HMHA) SSD

VS

Single UnRAIDed-
Samsung 970 PRO 512GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7P512BW)


I currently have two Samsung 850 Pro drives RAID0 and I'm wondering if going to a single 970 Pro M.2 would be a big upgrade for me or not.

I was also hoping for advice and suggestions on what would be a "Great Value" upgrade for me as well. Meaning, if I was to go a different route or if I was to get a different set of SSD's for RAID0, would it be more of an upgrade for me than the 970 Pro M.2. I've also been eyeing the new Samsung QVOs that just came out as a possible worthy RAID0 upgrade. I know about the RAID0 risk and advantages already. Just needing wayyy faster Read/Write speeds now as my current speeds are not accommodating for me anymore. I am constantly moving and transferring very large files (ie.500MB-3GB) back and forth between folders, constantly, and my patience is really wearing. Of course, a little patience is expected, when I am transferring files to/from my HDD drive (3.5" Barracuda Pro 10TB 7,200RPM) to/from the Samsung 850 Pro drive but the times I'm experiencing right now is a little too much.

Any help, advice, and inputs would be greatly appreciated.

raid0 does basically nothing for SSD's, and the m.2 will be faster.

are you moving or copying within the same disk? moving should take no time at all, copying will take as long as it takes to write the file.

If you are moving between disks then consider your workflow, try and keep on the same disk from start to finish and move off at the end.

The 970 series is now knocking on the door of 3400 MB/sec reads, 3000 MB/sec writes....

Those are speeds conventional SSDs (if given a functioning RAID controller) would need to have 6 of them in RAID 0 to remotely compete with...

Does the 970 'feel'' 6 times faster in everyday life, however? No. (But, 4 minute WIndows installs from USB are cool!)

Prices have fallen drastically on NVME drives...I can't understand why anyone would NOT put an M.2 NVME drive in a new rig, even at a $40-$60 premium over a standard SSD, but,.....it's their call, of course)

You can always add more 970's via a pcie slot adapters.

@mdd1963 - because adding an m2 disables 2 of my sata ports; since, as you said, the noticeable performance isn't 6 times as great it isn't worth it to me.
