is RAM upgrade necessary?

I currently have 8GB of ddr3-1333 memory, and am looking to upgrade, but my current mobo doesn't support anything higher than that. Is it worth upgrading my mobo and memory to 1600 or more? will i see much of an improvement in performance? The money for the new mobo isn't an issue. I will be using this for 3d rendering applications such as 3ds max and have heard that memory is very important in this process, thanks.

No , you will not notice any difference between 1333 and 1600MHz RAM.
Whats the name of your mobo?

Ram speed is relatively unimportant to real app performance.
I think the importance of ram is related to how much you have.
What motherboard do you have?
It is unlikely that a different motherboard and the same cpu will give you any benefit at all.

What cpu do you have?

If your app can make use of more ram for workspace, then adding ram, even at 1333 might be a better idea.

There will be almost no difference between 1333 and 1600Mhz, but I read that 16Gb is good for 3D rendering, maybe you should consider that instead.

Get 4x4GB or 2X8GB 1333MHz RAM and you are good to go
Your mobo supports up to 16GB on max 1333MHz .
