Hi everyone! I'm looking to update my rig. Right now I have a 6700k with an RTX 1070. I built it over 5 years ago now and it's past time. I was able to secure an RTX 3080 Ti from Best Buy but man that's a LOT of money for a GPU! I was hoping to spend no more than the $700 for the vanilla 3080 but those are virtually impossible to get. I guess I could wait until mid year and see where all this falls. What would you guys do? I'd like to get into at least 2k but wouldn't mind hooking it up to my 4k TV. And if you would pay that what would you pair it with?

Solution
Well, since I own a PS5/Series X/Switch I may be through with PC gaming for a while. I got all three of those for the price of a 3080 Ti! Insane!
It all depends on what you are looking for from a personal gaming standpoint. Personally I think there are a lot of people in the world right now who would love to own your PC, it's a good 1080p system and grants you access to 1000s of titles you cant play anywhere else, no monthly fees and no paying £60+ for games. Right now to start running a system at 2 - 4k is going to cost you a small fortune.
I have a RTX 3080 Ti in my gaming rig. It is a beast in terms of performance. I game on a 4k display and nothing, so far, has made it sweat.

Couple things to be aware of. It will run hot. Good airflow matters. Also, it can be quite demanding in terms of power supplies. What make/model PSU do you have now?

I have an EVGA Supernova 850 G2. What CPU and platform are you using? I wonder if I need to update from my 6700k.

NO GPU is currently worth its current RRP as they are selling directly to scalpers at this point. Markets inflated beyond reasonable prices at this point. I just sold a 6 year old GPU for more than I paid for it NEW... RIDICULOUS

EDIT: I'm in UK legit selling RX 480 4GBs for 300+ 🤢 a 3080TI retails for almost $2000 in the UK lmao.

This is true. Prices are completely out of control around the globe. Original MSRP is largely a thing of the past at this point.

A friend of mine sold an RX580/4GB I repaired (only needed a re-flash) for $350 CAN two months ago... wish I had gotten a couple of those after the first crypto crash when 8GB models could be had for as low as $150 CAN / $120 US.
Price of a solid GPU will cost you a lung and the best part of an arm in the UK. I recently paid £400 for a used/great condition 1080ti from my Cousin and that was a bargain considering what the RX480 went for! There was a short period here where people didn't realise and were selling full PCs with 1070s etc in them for 4-500GBP. Pulled the GPU and made the money back rest of the systems were profit.

That's true. I guess we're all getting a little spoiled. I need to think back to the days of the NES and VHS...oh and cassettes! Haha!

It's not so much that we are spoiled in my opinion. Computing is a part of our culture now. The price of things and the nature behind the reasoning of that pricing is what makes it so incredibly problematic for most peoples bank accounts at the moment.
