Hello.

I'm low on budget(can't afford RTX 3060-3050 Ti laptops). I need mid-range laptop for university.

I have found MSI Bravo 15 B5DD-208XTR model laptop cheaper than RTX 3050 laptops.

I have Radeon R9 280X in my current computer. I'm very happy with how it performs. I have checked how RX 5500M performs and it looks faster than my R9 280X which is great.

I don't play any competitive online games. I can enjoy the video games at 1080p high settings and 30 FPS.

The lack of DLSS and Ray Tracing is kinda bad but overall performance is decent enough for my expectations.

Is this laptop worth to get?

If you are currently happy with the R9 280X's performance, then the RX 5500M should suit your gaming needs as well. It is definitely faster than the R9 280X, but not heaps faster though.

It also depends on what games you want to play, what settings and resolution you want to play at, and what fps you’re targeting. Whether it is really worth buying, that actually depends on your needs.

If you want to play the newest AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077 at 60fps you won’t be able to achieve with a 5500M, but you would be able to get a playable ~30fps on medium-high settings at 1080p. If you’re happy with 30fps, go for it, but if you want a consistent 60fps in next-gen games you’ll need something much higher-end. But since you are on a budget, then the RX 5500M should be fine.

The AMD Radeon RX 5500M (or RX 5500 Mobile Graphics) is a mobile mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 14 chip (RDNA architecture) manufactured in the modern 7nm process. It features 1,408 cores with fast GDDR6 graphics memory. The performance of the RX5500M should be between the Nvidia GTX 1660Ti Max-Q and the normal GTX 1660 Ti according to AMD.

That means it should be best suited for Full HD (1920x1080) with high or maximum settings in almost all demanding games. You can play AAA games like Red Dead Redemption 2 at High settings (1080p) with 30–40 fps. Witcher 3 at Ultra (1080p) with 45+ FPS. Or games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare at max settings (1080p) with 50FPS+ .

You can probably push less demanding games like CS:GO at max settings (1080p) with over 200FPS. Check some of the gaming benchmarks in this link. You need to scroll down the page though. A LOT of PC games have been tested here.

You will need to realize that investing in older tech has their own sets of limitations, namely being that their driver support will be limited, to non-existent. Also, game dev's will want technology to move forward so they code their games differently demanding more from the system. I also can't recommend the RTX3050 to even an entry level gamer considering that it's actually an upgrade for people working with a GT720(nothing more). It's a waste of silicon as well.

What sort of laptops are you looking at(apart from the MSI one listed above)? What is your budget for said laptops? Where are you located?

5500 @ 1080P is a winner... don't expect the world and still you might get what you were after.

I was used to my rx570 desktop which I preferred over my 1070ti and still this 1650 mobile stands right up and its no match for a 5500m just don't expect the world beyond high with some on medium... if you are a 1 single person game player... itll be magic
wait I reviewed and you have a280x its gonna be about the same until the new cpu and ram are accounted for.
