Is the AMD a6-6400k a good processor?

Solution
Depends on your budget.

It's an APU, it's not particularly strong compared to other CPUs. However it's internal GPU is quite impressive, if you're not going to use a dedicated graphics card (you really should for a gaming PC).

No not really. It's more of a home theater cpu or super cheap super entry level gaming cpu meaning it would be alright for low-med setting gaming @ 720p or lowest settings possible 1080p gaming.

Surely you can do better? What's the budget?

My budget is 50 - 60

I could not possibly recommend this but it's the best you can do for $250

Definitely the A8. On sale now on newegg, so i'd jump on it. Looking over this build, I think everything on there is a great choice. Because you already have your motherboard, I think the money would be best spent on getting better RAM. Get 2133 mhz, 8GB. The GSkill Sniper series is 10% off now, at a price of $72: http://

Good luck!

Unfortunately, for the FM2 socket of your motherboard, you can't get any better than the 750K/760K or the A10 series. Spend you money on the 750K, and maybe a better video card! Maybe some more RAM too.
