I am on my 1st build and want to make sure that this is going to go smooth. Does anyone know if the ASRock 970 EXTREME4 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 5 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS is compatible with the AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core Vishera Processor 3.5GHz Socket AM3+????

Parts picker states this: Compatibility Notes

Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs.

Thanks in advance for the help

Here is the part picker link.

Intel CPU's and AMD boards are not at all compatible. I was suggesting an Intel based CPU and the $66 MB that I mentioned would be good.

I think the OP is on a budget.

LOL back to square one. I thought that the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...\

Has 8+2 phase CPU VRM power design for AMD high-TDP CPU support, so it won't have any problem with the higher voltage, 8-core CPU's.?????????????

Isnt this motherboard better than the asrock extreme4?

I understand when I build I see what I want and then buy it when I gather money up for what I want - not short change myself along the way bad [opinion] carefull planning and known cost to provide

-- you know with that amd board at first instead of a 8300 chip why not go with a fx6300 ? looking at newegg they seem a lot happier with it over the 8320 ??

6300

8320

I thinkmit would make a better match up for that 970 board ??

I don't know what to say cause your preferences are not as mine or his or the guy down the block??

you got to research and do as you think is best for your needs

in that sence I would say yes ?? depending on the vrm quality ? maybe a high end part or the cheap part ?? I tried to look that up earlier to see

they say its the same as the 990fx ud3 but do we know if the one uses a 40 amp or the better 60 amp ??

see from page 306

The VRM is 8+2 phase EXACTLY the same as the 990FXA-UD3 (rev 1.1). Don't let someone tell you the board can't handle an 8350, not true but there are some caveats. The VRM heatsink is a little dinky and the boards are known to warp causing poor contact between VRM, thermal pad, and heatsink. Make sure there is actual direct airflow at the heatsink. The VRM should never blow up unless you're pushing a high voltage/OC with either little/no airflow to the heatsink or little contact between thermal pad and VRM all while running something really strenuous.

This shows the poor contact due to a warped board (this is form my 990FXA-UD3 (rev 1.1). See the warp around the USB ports?:

I do know that the vrm on the 990fx ud3 revision 4 and up went to a improver vrm part that's a 60amp part ??????

Yes, it is a better MB. That's why I said it would be a better fit. Probably less problematic.

What about this motherboard ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130731&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= ) with the Intel CPU Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor.

Is it better than the GIGABYTE GA-H81-D3 LGA 1150 Intel H81 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard?
