Hey, Im building my first PC and am receiving the parts one by one as I type, but I have just received my psu which is a CX750M which I thought was a high end psu but it turns out it isn't, I'm wondering if i'll have to return it I will be running this with a gtx 1070 and a i7 6700k which I plan on overclocking. Do you think the psu will be able to run the pc or will I have to get a new one?

It will run it perfectly okay although it isn't the best it certainly isn't the worst. Think of it like a Ford Focus although I'd want something better I wouldn't feel to stupid running my PC with it considering it is covered with a 3 year warranty.

Running stock with a system like that with 2 HDD and some fans going you will not be pulling more than 400w then add some overclocking for 550w and you arn't even pushing it that hard so will be fine.

From my experience, I was able to get ~3.5 good years out of a Corsair CX600M, but am currently starting to run into issues. This is with a much older CPU, so I would definitely not recommend it for the Haswell/Skylake+ generation.

Likewise, I feel as though my max overclocks suffered by a PSU bottleneck.

If you're still in the window for being able to return it, I certainly would if I were you.

A Corsair RMx (emphasis on the "x", RM is a different, less reliable series) will be much more reliable for your build and waste less electricity/have more reliable overclocks.

If you're able to return this existing CM750W, you would have to pay very little extra if at all for this much better PSU. I just ordered the RMX two days ago and am looking forward to the upgrade.

Good luck mate, cheers.

This is very good advice although I'd only return if free to do so.

Hmmm, cool thanks, I was just worried considering it's so low on the psu tier list on the site

Honestly awhile it isn't the best it also isn't the worst. It is the lowest I'd think about running on although it will be more than fine, if you were going to push it to the limit with running it at 700w+ running out of it I'd change but you will only be using 500-550w max and it will be fine.

Want a story? I had a 3570k with HD 7850 crossfire on a 550w XFX PSU and it lasted for a year before starting to fail and I got it RMA'ed. I was pushing 500w on it and absolutely hammering it like a moron but it was fine and it gave me a warning before going.

Yeah, I might get this one, however isn't the G2 abetter alternative? It's pretty hard to buy anything PC part atm due to the new GPUs and everyone building systems

Yes, EVGA G2 PSUs are 80+ Gold certified quality power supplies.

I have had mine for over 3 years and I don't think it has any issues.

Exactly why I'd stay with it at the end of the day it might be slightly sub par but also isn't a live hand grenade. If you do get any issues it will most likely be after 3-5 years and you will get a warning probably before it goes if it does go. If it does go then it shouldn't damage anything anyway.

Nope you are just going to be getting lower rated but better quality. You want to know something I own a CX750 as a backup power supply and I think it's okay, I wouldn't have it in my main rig for long but it's good enough. You will be pushing a better quality unit harder than a slightly less quality but higher rated decent unit. It's upto you but I'd stick with what you have and this isn't just something I've read I actually own a very similar product, I can take a picture of it if you like 😛

Also thanks SR-71 for backing me up!

That's the one I have

I'd return it. You have a large investment in parts and it just doesn't seem right to pair it with such a budget PSU. This is a mistake many novice builders make. It's not going to give them more FPS, or better performance so it's hard to convince them not to save money on the PSU. This is the cornerstone of the system, if it's not stable / reliable, then it doesn't matter how good the rest of the components in your system are.

This is a shout out to all NOVICE PC BUILDERS, make sure your budget includes a good Tier 2 or higher PSU. If you are unsure, ask for advice.

IF THAT'S THE ONE YOU HAVE , you will be fine it's a new design and carries a good 5 year warranty.

Yeah, I've done a lot of research in to PCs and I have been told to get a good power supply, I was kinda rushed into picking the parts when it finally came to it and I thought it was a high end PSU as it was £80 and i thought the black and grey corsair psu's were the good ones. Probably should've looked more into the specific part :/ , I wouldvve gotten the evga g2 but it wasnt in stock by amazon

Yeah i'll keep it then, if something goes wrong, then it does have a 5 year warranty
