Question Is the EVGA 750W G5 an upgrade to the EVGA 750W G2?

Downgrade. Their enthusiast lines got worse when EVGA's relationship with Super Flower ended and they went to FSP and Andyson instead. They went to a cheaper topology that notoriously has trouble with Nvidia 30 series GPUs. G6 was made by Seasonic and was better.

Thanks, I was being offered a G5 as an RMA replacement for my G2 and I didn't think that was an equal replacement. I'd much rather get a G2/G3 than a G5 but they argue it is the same 750W gold rated standard power supply that works for any computer. They even told me the difference might be some connectors and the color.

Tell them that you will not accept any PSU with an active clamp reset forward topology as they are inferior to your G2 product. If they refuse, ask to speak to the supervisor. Being polite but forceful is the best way to act.

In the end, if you're unable to convince someone, sell the G5 on eBay and eat the difference between it and something better.

I'd demand a G6.
I asked if I could get a G6 instead when I called them and the guy just said no. He was the one that said there's no difference between power supplies and argued that 5 is better than 2 since it's newer.

The guy I called said he will escalate the ticket. I showed and linked them Aris's review (much respect to Aris and the Cybenetics certification) and reiterated some of his points. Seriously doubt they cared or even looked at it. None of the guys I've interacted with at EVGA support team seems to know what they're talking about. I guess all I can do is wait and see what they'll respond with.

Took them over a week for this "escalated" ticket. They are now offering a G+. Is the G+ better than a G5? Still looks like a worse alternative. Other than that they won't budge at all and won't let me get a G2 back either.

Unfortunately, about the same quality as the EVGA G5. If you can't escalate farther, you may have to accept it. Make it at least clear to them that you are very unhappy with their customer service, how they've foisted an inferior, not an equivalent product on you, and you won't do business with them in the future.

Burke or Sebastian would be far more useful, but if you're game, I am a known journalist with a Twitter checkmark (@DSzymborski), so I could throw a little bit of a fuss at them directly. I've gotten customer service to help me with mine or other people's problems more effectively this way in the past. No guarantee of course, but that's all else I can do for you at this point.

Thanks for offering to help. I did not like the way they provided the service and their reps are technically illiterate but in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big enough deal for me to pursue this further as it's already been a huge waste of breath talking to them. I will just take the power supply they sent and sell it. In the meantime, I'll buy an actual quality replacement from Seasonic and never another EVGA unit again.

OK, I'm sorry it turned out this way. I wish I had another way to get you justice here. EVGA offered you an inferior product and that totally sucks.

I once RMA'd a Z170 EVGA board - they sent an abused refurbished for replacement. It had severe warp around the CPU socket. And it died again very soon. Didn't bother and moved on to the 8th gen... No EVGA product since then
