I want to upgrade from my i5 2320. Since I'm on a budget, should I buy an AMD FX-8320? I know it's not as good as the FX-8350 but I will use a CoolerMaster TX3 EVO and overclock the 8320 as far as it goes... will that make it equal, if not better, than an out-of-the-box 8350?

Normally, that is precisely what I would do. However, what I forgot to mention was that I am unfortunate enough to be a 14-year-old computer enthusiast. I do live under restrictions. In fact, I have literally saved enough money for a 4960X, but my technophobic parents would never justify my need for premium hardware. This is the only reason why I'm on a budget, logain, and why I just cannot go Intel. Yes, it might be better, but in my situation, I desperately need the value-for-money CPUs AMD offers.

like I said earlier along with others, your current sandy bridge i5 is fine still for most stuff, it would make MUCHHH more sense to spend all this money on a gpu instead of getting a sidegrade in terms of cpu power and a motherboard. Get a GTX 770 or r9 280x and call it a day and even with your i5 that combo could still play basically anything on 1080p ultra, and if your setup is years older and you only have a 720p monitor, well, without a question you could max anything out too. The gtx 650ti isn't that great.

I'm very surprised more people didn't just recommend the guy to get a better gpu >_>

Oh goddamit, I hadn't read this one... whatever, I still need an upgrade for better rendering times on blender. I will wait a bit longer for a GPU upgrade, since the 650 ti was bought last summer, otherwise I feel like I'm going to waste my money a bit. I'll just wait until its warranty is over.

The 650ti is a very low-end card by todays standard, upgrading it to a GTX 760 for example would give you about twice the performance you actualy have in games, so i would sell this 650ti even if you bought it yesterday sell to the most offering and upgrade to a 760 don't care about warranty GPU almost never fails anyway...and your new card will be under warranty for a full 3 years too you know...even if you would put the bext CPU in the world in your system you would get ZERO more FPS you GPU is too low.

Really? There is such a difference? Man, I thought the 760 was like 30 - 35% better than the 650ti...

Nahhh...the 650ti is a low-end card and has always been, even the GTX 760 is almost twice as powerful...a 760 will comfortably play every modern games on high settings at 1080p at very good framerates where the 650ti would struggle for 25 or 30 frames on much lower settings...really.

If you want to save some more money you could look at a r9 270x wich is a little cheaper, a little slower too but not much and will basically also offer you much better performance than your 650ti.

Here GTX 760 vs r9 270x (you should pay around US 220$ to 250$ for a GTX 760 and 180$ to 220$ for a R9 270x)

Make sure also that your PSU (powersupply) is up to the task, to fun such a GPU you need at least 500w and if possible a good known brand for PSU. 550w recommanded if you're going to buy a new unit...ask if you need any answer about that.

yeah getting a gtx 760 would be the best choice honestly, then later if you're not happy with render times still, then get the 8 core and motherboard, because to me, it feels like you'd be wasting money on a cpu right now with such a very low end gpu, like he said, it wouldn't matter if you got the 650ti yesterday, get rid of it lol. You could try ebay or something :p

Ok, thanks for the advice! I would have wasted my money. I think I'll use the money I was going to spend aon the CPU and mobo combined, and I'll get myself a 700w PSU and a superclocked GTX770. *me gusta*
