Is the Geforce GTX 670 Worst Graphics Card Ever?!

I went to my local Computer Store and I was thinking about getting the GTX 670 4GB by EVGA, but they told me that a lot of people sent there's back. It wasn't just the EVGA one, it was a bunch of other companies but they were all the GTX 670! They told me that some people when they got it, it was dead already in the box. The guy who was talking to me about it told me when he bought his it was fine with 2D, then all of a sudden when he started doing 3D it just died, and stopped working! I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem because I was really looking forward to getting one of these.

I've definitely heard about a fair share of problems, partially due to Nvidia's early drivers for the 670 being pretty bad, others due to the people buying the 670 not doing their research. I recommend this card here and to friends all the time and have hardly heard about problems. First of all, make sure you have a quality power supply of 550w-600w (i'm giving it a little extra room, a good 500w is fine). then, before you plug the card in, download the latest drivers from Nvidia. then boot into safemode and uninstall your old drivers completely. then shut down and remove your old card. plug in your new one, boot up and install those new drivers you downloaded, reboot and enjoy your 670 I doubt there would be an issue.

oh, and don't get the 4GB unless you want to run 3 monitors. 2 gb is more than sufficient

I have three monitors, so I will want the 4GB one I also want to know, what would you do if you are adding it to your own PC build, because that is what I am trying to do. I want to use the CoolerMaster Silent Pro RS850-AMBAJ3-US 850W, so will that be good for it? Eventually I want to get two 670's in SLI. So my main question is, what should I do if I were building a new computer and I wanted the 670? Thanks!

coolermaster is an amazing case builder, but their PSUs are generally pretty bad (I should say they generally slap their label on a bad PSU and sell it for a premium). the silent pro series are half decent, jonny guru here gave the 1000w version an above average score:

on the other hand, corsair has an excellent reputation in PSU, and for a 850w, I would get the corsair HX850w reviewed here:

with that out of the way, yes 850w is good enough to allow you to SLI in the future. and what is your PC building budget? if it's for a complete 3 monitor gaming PC I can throw together a quick build for you

I don't want a Radeon, I'm not the biggest fan of AMD.... Anyways vmen, this is what my budget is. $3500, but that's like max out. I would be in the comfort zone of $3000. So here is some info I will give you, I want to use the Vertex 4 256gb SSD, and the 3TB Seagate HDD. The 3930k Six Core i7 Processor. With the HAF X 932 Case, 32GB of ram, and the rest is yours to play around with! I wouldn't mind the GTX 670, or the 680, but I would really want them to have 4GB of GDDR5 ram. Thanks, I really appreciate it!!

Are u just gaming? if so, $3000 is just plain overkill unless you just want bragging rights. More than 4 cores and 8gb ram doesn't get u anything.

wow, a very comfortable budget to play with hehe... mind if I ask what you'll be using the computer for? unless you'll be running extended levels of virtualization (or just 10 virtual desktops simultaneously), you don't need 32GB of ram... with normal gaming use I hardly ever exceed 6GB of ram utilization, with some utilization 12GB. 16GB is generally regarded as an overkill amount of ram (or very future-proof). seeing as you'll have a nice 4 channels, I would just put a quality 4GB stick in each. G.skill snipers should suite your needs well (especially being highly overclockable)

speaking of overclocking, the HAF X cases are awesome. but if you want to get some nice overclock going (and leave room for gradual PSU degredation) I would go slightly higher on the PSU.

there, total's $1900. so you have $1600 max left for the 670 and whatever else you'd like this should be a beastly machine
cheapest 4GB 670 I could find is at $600... at that price I'd say it's not worth it lol

Well go for it! But I really would like the 32GB of Ram. I do a lot of 3DS Max rendering, simultaniously with CS6 After Effects Rendering, I also use Premiere Pro, and the whole adobe Creative Suite. As well as the gaming, so it needs to be a very good. The thing is, I never overclocked a PC in my life so I don't really know how to do that, so I would want to have to have the max I can do it. So Yeah if needed a higher PSU. Again thanks! I can't wait to see what you come up with 😀

Oh I was a bit to late! But it looks great! I really do like this machine! It looks awesome! I kind of went carried away and got the GTX 680 with 4GB. I also added 64GB of Ram to see how much it costs, and its $2700 in total, now one more question. Is the 1600MHz worth it, compared to 1300MHz?

and if you really feel like you need 32GB of ram, well go for it. but I would just get 16GB for now. take a look at memory usage while you do your rendering/gaming. if you break 12GB of usage (not just memory space reserved for use), go ahead and order 16gb more. memory's always getting faster, so personally I wouldn't buy more than I actually use
