Agreeing with the point made above, they do run pretty hot compared to more modern cards. You'll probably achieve 'R9 290X on reference cooler' temps with the 400 series.
I ended up getting one for $53. I couldn't pass up the price.
Not a bad price considering something as good from the new line will cost ~100-150. Just know that your electrical bills will start racking up quickly, so you should replace it before it becomes a net minus (depends on use, but about a year on average)
