For gaming it's not a big jump, and you're not going to see a big boost unless DirectX 12 allows the i7s hyperthreading to make more of a difference in gaming compared to the i5s. Your 980Ti is DirectX 12 compatible and once you have Windows 10, you'll have that taken care of. I'd say stick with what you have right now unless the new features on the Z170 chipset really interest you eg. more chipset PCI-E lanes allowing the use of 2 way SLI and a high performance SSD at the same time on a mainstream platform.
