Hmm, this is an interesting one. I`m not sure who did this or how they did it. I can`t accuse any country of being responsible for this attack but I can share some ideas on how they did it. I have 2 ideas for this problem, and my first idea is the country has placed a filter on pipes going from the main ISP. I`m not sure how they would do this, and I`m pretty sure this is impossible. But keep in mind these are just ideas. Furthermore, my seccond idea is that the country responsible tracked the pipe traffic and then sent many packets of data. Adding on to my 2nd point, doing this would crash the ISP because it would probably exceed the pipes maximum limit. In conclusion, there are many ways that people could do this and we have yet to find out who could do this.

You just described 1) Cutting a fibre cable, and 2) a DoS attack.

In order to DDOS attack a country that well the source has to be coming from the government because nobody else has the sufficient speeds to be able to do this. Some guy in his home can't do it. Maybe they paid Google? Google has the speeds to DDOS attack anyone.

Really, the only reason North Korea is still standing is because China wants to keep them as one of their few communist buddys.

However, I think even China is getting quite tired of North Korea's failures.

I don't want to speculate as to whom is responsible for this DDOS against NK. But, as I am a network engineer, I know that a well-organized group can accomplish this - ESPECIALLY towards a country such as NK, with likely few eBGP peers / links.

Knowing this will effect the leadership more than any of the unfortunate poor & tortured souls of the general population, only serves to make me happier.

Communism is a true disease of the mind.

And if it turns out the USA IS responsible for this denial of service, well I tip my hat to you. Kim J is a disgusting person, devoid of any morals.

The next global war will clearly be fought on and offline, eh kids?

I hope there are a few Trojans sent into the nkpd with the attack. It would be a move that the U..S. could perform at it's own time and on it's own terms.

Couldn't resist.

a simple DoS from a small relatively low end laptop to a DNS server hive can knock a country to its knees, with enough time and enough keep-alives... additionally, there is always that pesky NTP issue most people forget about 😉

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony attack was another false flag attack. What kind of Internet resources does North Korea have any way? Do they have the educational resources to commit such an attack? Does Sony have such poor network security that would let this sort of thing to happen?
All questions that should be answered before blaming anyone.

no the us government did not attack north korea via the internet, that was sonys hacking group in japan a foreign state hacking a private company is not worthy of congress's attention or the presidents, obama just says something to save face but all his actions have ever been is to back down and submit to defeat and surrender on every single thing in his presidency, he was forced to go after his fellow islamic brother osama bin laden because every american would have strung him up in a noose from a cherry tree in d.c. if he pulled a 'pot smoker serial rapist slippery willy CLInTon'.
when it's not a matter of obama's life and death, he surrenders to socialist and communist national interests in his destructive rampage of america.
putin made obama his toilet paper long ago and it's putin whose ruling the world now days and nobody dares to stop putin let alone 'kim dumb son'

only the FBI is investigating this with minor help from Homeland in tracing the attacks and the NSA feeding then what ever they can google search their server farms, literally, no joke, i chuckled when i heard the plan. smh

All the "leadership" in N Korea are crazy and suffer from all stages of megalomania, personally it would be awesome if "an accident" took their internet/cable tv/telephone lines for good next time... the almighty Korean leader would go bonkers (even more) for not being able to use it.

As of their "military might" LoL... a school full of children would be more dangerous at lunch break

If they like so much of being the "ode man out" just let they return to the dark ages to see how much they can withstand.
