I have an Alienware Aurora (2011 version). I'm upgrading my CPU to the Xeon e5 1620 v3. I want to make sure that it's compatible with my current liquid cooling system, which is Dell RM4CG PP749 Water Cooling System, so that I don't need to purchase a new fan or liquid cooling system to cool my CPU. My motherboard is the ASUS uATX X99-M WS and my video card is the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC Gaming ACX 2.0+.

Solution
Unless I am missing something, CPU coolers of any type are socket dependent not cpu model dependent. As long as you aren't changing socket types(different motherboard) there isn't a physical difference in the chip. Its just a flat square like any other cpu.

Be certain you are getting a cpu of the same socket as the motherboard though. If you are changing sockets, you need to check the support site for the cooler and see if that specific model of cooler supports that socket type.

I changed motherboards, as well. The one I had was an LGA 1366. The new one (mentioned above) is an LGA 2011 v3. Where do I look to see if it's compatible?

the support site for the cooler will list supported sockets(search google for either the model, or the company then in the companies site go to the support tab and user their search fields to lookup the model number and look at the specifications or manual) . The CPU should list the socket type from wherever you bought it from, or you can google it and look at the details for it.
