The reason I asked is because they are both 8 core and there's a price difference of $370 in Micro-Center and the Xeon's price has me thinking about building a second PC for the living room and leave this one for my room. Can it be overclocked? How will it compares to the i7-5960X if I overclock it?

Well the Xeon is less fast as the i7 5960x. However it is cheaper. I have not personally used it however it is very well respected and is good. So if you have the money go with i7 however you won't see loss in gameplay if you get the Xeon.

Difference between Xeon and i7 is about integrated graphics, which makes xeons cheaper. The Xeon E5 260V3 has lower clockspeed compared to i7-5960x, 2.4 ghz vs 3.0 ghz. Overclocking xeon processors are also hard compared to other cpus due to limitations.
